Our Top Favorite Probiotic Products of 2019

Are you looking to support your diet with an infusion of probiotic goodness? The options these days are endless!

With the rise of information on the health benefits of probiotics, brands have flocked to get their products on the shelves. The array can be overwhelming, but don't worry! We've combed the grocery aisles and done the ingredient-inspecting and taste-testing for you.

Here are some of our favorite *probiotics food products this year (so far). 

*Most of these products are available at Wholefood's and other natural health markets, but you can click on the individual links to see if they're at a store closer to you. 

1. Fermented Vegetables

If you enjoy some spice,  Wildbrine's Korean Kimchi makes a great addition to salads and, well, pretty much everything. We've been known to eat it by the spoonful. This Kimchi Veggie Brown Rice Bowl by HipFoodieMom is a perfect dish to start with. 

Not a spice fan?  Wildbrine's Raw Organic Kraut is a great alternative and can be used as a condiment, salad topper, or even an addition to sandwiches and wraps.

We love a good pickle. Sonoma Brinery's Manhattan-Style Fresh Pickles are raw, probiotic-rich, GMO-free, and chockful of flavor. 

2. Drinks/Tonics

A recent study showed that taking 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar daily, helped  dieters lose nearly twice as much weight as those who didn't consume it.  From weight loss and lowering cholesterol, to reducing acne and improving heart health – the benefits of apple cider vinegar are numerous. 

We're not going to lie... it may not be the most delicious thing initially, but you do get used to the taste. The benefits are worth it. 

Braggs, Kevita, and many other brands have created apple cider vinegar-infused drinks, which may be more palatable for some.

3. Yogurts & Kefirs

Goat milk kefir? If you're wrinkling your nose already, bear with us for a minute.

Goat milk is easier to digest, lower in lactose, causes less inflammation, has fewer allergenic proteins, and is higher in calcium than cow's milk. Add it to smoothies, mix it up with some berries, or even add a little to your breakfast oatmeal.

Kite Hill is a fast growing brand with an array of plant-based "dairy" products. Their Plain Unsweetened Yogurt is a wonderful probiotic-filled alternative for vegans or anyone avoiding dairy. 

Want a guiltless treat? Try CocoYo Living Coconut Yogurt. This fluffy, tasty, dairy-free yogurt contains approximately 25 billion CFUs, only 1 gram of sugar, and is made of raw coconuts. 

4. Teas

There's nothing like winding down the day with a feel-good cup of tea that will help your body feel its best. 

Yogi's Cinnamon Berry Probiotic Balance and Tulsi's Turmeric Ginger tea are perfect for aiding your digestive system and relieving stress after a long day. 

5. Miso

Did you know that miso enhances digestion, increases cognitive, aids in appetite control, and helps with mood regulation? And those are just a few of their benefits!

When choosing a miso paste, look for one that's organic and unpasteurized (pasteurization kills the probiotics). Avoid miso pastes that contain lots of flavoring additives such as MSG and sugar.

It's important to note that boiling water will kill the probiotics in miso. Make sure you wait until your soup is finished cooking and has been taken off the heat and then stir in the miso to taste.
